Overview

Kerala's backwaters are a genuinely different kind of Indian travel — a slow drift by houseboat through palm-fringed canals and paddy fields, with no itinerary beyond watching the shoreline go by. This circuit pairs a backwater cruise with the cool tea-covered hills of Munnar, and time for an Ayurvedic treatment or two along the way.

Trip Highlights

  • An overnight cruise aboard a traditional kettuvallam houseboat
  • Bird-watching around Kumarakom's backwater lagoons
  • Rolling tea plantations and viewpoints around Munnar
  • An Ayurvedic massage or wellness treatment
  • Kerala's distinctive coconut-and-spice cuisine
