This circuit through Uttarakhand's foothills suits families and first-time visitors to India who want mountain scenery without the altitude of Ladakh or Kashmir. It pairs two colonial-era hill stations — lake-side Nainital and the "Queen of the Hills," Mussoorie — with a wildlife safari through Jim Corbett, India's oldest national park and a reliable spot for tiger sightings.
Arrive and settle by Nainital Lake. Boating on the lake, a walk along Mall Road, and the cable car up to Snow View Point.
Drive to Jim Corbett National Park. Two jeep safaris (morning and afternoon) through the park's forest and grassland zones.

No sighting can be guaranteed, but Corbett has one of India's healthier tiger populations and most multi-safari visits see a good range of wildlife even without a tiger sighting.
